Small Animal Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy can benefit a wide range of small animals, but is most commonly utilised in our canine and feline companions to improve their comfort, mobility, strength and overall quality of life.
Commonly treated conditions include:
Orthopaedic conditions e.g. osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, patella luxation, cranial cruciate ligament disease.
Neurological conditions e.g. intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), lumbosacral disease, fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE).
Soft tissue conditions e.g. tendon and ligament injuries, muscle tension/strains, wound healing.
Post surgery rehabilitation e.g. TPLO surgery, fracture repair, femoral head and neck osteotomy, hip replacements, amputations.
Healthy/performance maintenance: regular assessments to identify signs of dysfunction and discomfort early on, treatments to enhance overall comfort, mobility and performance.
Equine Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is also beneficial for our equine companions, aiming to reduce discomfort, improve range of motion and restore function, alongside improving postural weaknesses and optimising movement patterns to support a healthy, comfortable life and ensure they are both physically and mentally fit to be ridden.
Commonly treated conditions include:
Orthopaedic conditions e.g. osteoarthritis, kissing spines, upward fixation of the patella (UFOP), sacroiliac dysfunction.
Neurological conditions e.g. helping to manage cervical spondylomyelopathy (wobblers), shivers and stringhalt.
Soft tissue conditions e.g. tendon and ligament injuries (SDFT, DDFT, PSD), muscle pain/tension/strains, muscular asymmetries, wound healing.
Hoof conditions e.g. laminitis, sidebone, navicular syndrome/disease.
Post surgery rehabilitation e.g. fracture repairs, arthroscopies, post-colic surgery.
Healthy/performance maintenance: regular assessments to identify signs of dysfunction and discomfort early on, treatments to enhance overall comfort, mobility and performance.
Treatment Modalities
Each physiotherapy session begins with an assessment of your animal. This includes detailed history taking, static, dynamic, palpation, and range of motion assessments. The findings of the assessment then guide a tailored treatment plan which encompases a combination of the techniques outlined below.
The sessions are guided by your animal and their tolerance level, nervous/anxious animals may require a few sessions to gradually build trust before allowing hands-on assessment and treatment. In these cases, we focus more on exercises and lifestyle recommendations.
Manual Therapy
Massage and myofascial release techniques
Trigger point release
Active and passive mobilisations
Positional release
Passive range of motion
Stretching
Electrotherapy
Heat Therapy (Epiony)
Low Level Laser Therapy (class 3B)
H-Wave Therapy
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMFT)
Transcutaneous Electrical Stimulation (TENS) and Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
Therapeutic Exercise
Static postural exercises
Dynamic mobilisation exercises
Balance exercises (+ stability pads, wobble cushions)
Proprioceptive exercises
Polework/Cavaletti Poles
Gentle, intentional groundwork.
And much more!
“Although I use electrotherapy modalities when appropriate, my favourite tools are my hands! I am also super passionate about empowering owners to help their animals in between sessions, by teaching specific exercises and discussing lifestyle/management changes that aim to positively impact their animals life.”

What area do I cover?
I cover a 20 mile radius from SO30 with no additional charges. I am happy to travel further in Hampshire and surrounding counties, with a fuel charge of 45p per mile added. Fuel charges do not apply if 3 or more animals are booked in at the same location, on the same day.
